  • The design was inspired by the turn of the twentieth century Gruber Wagon Works building and modified with Walter's imagination into a Railroad Car and Carriage construction/repair facility. Our friend, Raul Perez decorated it up nicely and we dedicated this building to his skills. This is the third structure in our Industries of America series.
This kit features precision laser cut parts including peel-and-stick backed windows for easy assembly, precision pewter metal casting details (rooftop vents and cabinet), easy to assemble tab-and-slot construction, high-resolution graphics, and detailed step by step instructions with paint recommendations. Please click on the Instructions tab to view the instructions. The finished structure measures approximately 6.5" by 4.5"

    A word from Raul:

This is the new “R. Perez and Sons Car & Carriage Works” in N scale from Showcase Miniatures. I’m very proud that they chose to name this one in my honor. And, at 6 ½” wide, 4 ½” deep, and 3 ½” tall, it is the largest N scale kit that they’ve ever produced.

There are 6 rooftop vents and housings can be combined at the peak as show, or split, and placed anywhere on any of the upper-floor roofs. The front, side, and rear sliding doors can be posed open or shut. The LED lighting does not come in the kit, but is very easy to install. I built this one with the doors shut, and the upper windows tilted open for Showcase Miniatures to use on their website, the box art, and to take to the trade shows. Note that the roofing material is pristine in the kit. I tattered and weathered it to give the building a very aged look.

I highly recommend this kit if you’re looking to add this type of building on your N scale layout. The instructions include the paint color formulas used to finish this model.

    • I have purchased six more Showcase Miniature kits because I liked this one so much
      1. The packaging is excellent and creative in the plastic folded boxes.
      2. The directions are isometric 3-D images. These are the best instructions of any kits I have built. Walter has replaced the usual text directions with an annotated path through 3-D exploded images which show exactly how the parts fit. For my PPVRR, I have built kits from 15 different suppliers. I think the creative way Showcase Miniatures designs the directions is the best of them all. The parts sheets are clearly labelled and numbered to correspond to the exploded 3-D drawings.
      3. The parts are precision laser cut. Flawlessly. The tabs fit together with no trimming.
      4. The materials are creative. This kit has fiberboard that mimics plaster walls as well as brick. Showcase Miniatures is the only kit builder that uses this for both walls and foundations with sidewalks, to my knowledge. The windows are easily assembled with their adhesive backing. They fit all the time! Why paint them. They look like hardwood anyway.
      5. This structure is complex and unique. There are no other kits like it. The detail is stunning. If the kit was not so well designed with a CAD system, it would not look half as good as it does.
      6. I have not put signage on my kit yet. I am looking for a proprietor that knows how to service rolling stock and engines that will do justice to this centerpiece structure.
      7. I used Aileen's tacky glue on the entire model. No CA. I use transparent wash on the siding and weathering chalks on the rest of the structure. I relief painted the bricks.

Overall, Walter's virtuosi command of CAD and laser printing puts everything Showcase Miniatures does form packaging to small parts cutting in the top of the field of N-scale kits. Keep them coming.
