  • The signal head will accommodate our Tri-color LED. Very detailed instructions are included along with painting and finishing tips and a history of the searchlight signal. These signals are based on Southern Pacific Prototypes but can be found on other rail lines. The kit contains a brass target that has been stamped to form a rim just like the prototype - includes standard signal hood. This kit can be built in one of two different configurations as shown in the pictures. For customizing your signals see our Signals Details package. Also, a set of drill bits to aid in constructing these signals will be helpful. LEDs, if desired, must be ordered separately.

First, I am not an expert builder of small kits lit this. Second I will include both the short cabinet and tall cabinet since I bought both and they are the same kit except for the cabinet itself. I also installed the LED0001 into the signal head. These are definatly well constructed and quality pieces. My only criticism would be that the nub on the arm could be a little bigger to afford more glue surface for the signal head. I found in handling after the signal head was mounted that I had 2 of the 4 come off, requiring regluing. My heavy hands and a little learning. I also managed to put a slight curve in one of the brass tubes as I filed for the hole for the LED wires, Just a warning to others. This is my heavy hand not a fault of the kit. The LED wires are definatly very fine and do completely disappear after painting the final assembly. I soldered some wire wrap wire to the ends so that I could connect the wire to screw terminals on the circuit board I used. By using colored wire wrap wire I could see which wire was which under the table in the less than ideal light. These were used to indicate the proper polarity entering and exiting reverse loops on a DC HO railroad. The finished product is very attractive and I would recommend them and would buy them again for another project.
