Wonderful model, I just replaced the elastic band with 0.3 mm brass wire.

    • Heavy Duty Flatcar
Overall, I'm vey pleased with the flat car kit. It fits the railroad I model, the West Side Lumber Company. They look great when done. There are a couple of tricks to get them to run right. The bolster pin holes do not match Micro-Trains Nn3 bolster pin dimensions. I found I had to used smaller numbered drills until the pin would just fit. However, this was still too big and required a small thin mushroom of tacky craft glue at the very end of the pin. Let dry and insert. Too much glue and the trucks will not spin freely. Too little and they fall out when running. It would be nice if the holes were correct in size to begin with. Secondly the couplers. There is no mounting hole for the Micro-trains body mount Nn3 couplers. Also not enough frame metal to mount the coupler flush with the flatcar end. Mount them more forward and use just a tiny amount of craft glue to prevent spinning loose over time. Not much or it gets into the coupler! Use magnification. Stay away from open slots of the coupler. It would be nice if the center frame beam was thicker to mount in the proper position. Follow up coupler installation the a generous amount of Micro-Trains' coupler grease'm and side to side burnishing. After that, they run as great as they look!

    • Essential Car
Every layout needs at least one of these versatile flat cars. This easy to assemble kit will add great visual interest to a layout either hauling cargo or sitting on a siding with equipment piled on top.
The wood deck is finely detailed and the truss rods give this model a nice detailed appearance. This kit would be a solid base for a fun kitbash project as well.
As usual the ordering process was a breeze and shipping was swift. I highly recommend this model for any narrow gauge layout or diorama.
