It wasn't unusual to find three or four stations like Walley's competing at one intersection. They were typically owned and operated by local businessmen who would obtain a brand name franchise like Mobil, Standard, Texaco, etc. Our model is patterned after an existing service station off old US highway 99. The structure is not used as a filling station today. It now houses a successful muffler repair shop. Photo Contribution: Steve Cox

      This was Showcase Miniatures first building kit and I have two of them on my layout. One of them is decorated as a Union 76 station and the other as a Signal gasoline station.

      The only thing missing from the kit is Wally, himself, in various poses from the days when filling stations actually provided free services to their customers and were referred to as "Service Stations".
